Brisbane Junior Theatre 2013
Auditions June 8th 2013 Monologues: Beauty and the Beast Jr.
NARRATOR: Once upon a time, in a faraway land, a young prince lived in a shining castle. Although he had everything his heart desired, the prince was spoiled, selfish, and unkind. If he could learn to love another by the time the last petal fell, then the spell would be broken. If not, he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time. As the years passed, he fell into despair, and lost all hope, for who could ever learn to love a beast?
GASTON: Belle, it's about time you got your head out of those books and paid attention to more important things...like me! The whole town's talking about it. It's not right for a woman to read--soon she starts getting ideas... and thinking. Hey, whaddya say you and me take a walk over to the tavern and have a look at my hunting trophies. Belle, you're the most beautiful girl in town and that makes you the best. And don't I deserve the best?
BELLE: Papa? Papa? Hello? Is someone here? Wait! I'm looking for my father! That's funny, I'm sure there was someone... I-I-Is there anyone here? Oh, Papa! Oh, your hands are like ice. We have to get you out of here. Who's done this to you? I won't leave you! Who's there? Who are you? I've come for my father. Please let him out! Can't you see he's sick? Please, I'll do anything! Oh, there must be some way I can...wait! Take me, instead! If I did, would you let him go? Come into the light. You have my word.
COGSWORTH: Splendid to see you out and about, mademoiselle. I am Cogsworth, head of the household. This is Lumiere. If there's anything...stop that...that we can...please...to make your stay more comfortable. Remember what the master said. I know she is hungry...Oh, all right. Glass of water, crust of bread, and then--Right this way, mademoiselle. Well keep it down. If the master finds out about this, it will be our necks!
MRS POTTS: Oh, try to be patient, sir. The girl has lost her father and her freedom all in one day. These things take time. Oh, you must help her to see past all that. Well, you can start by making yourself more presentable. Straighten up, try to act like a gentleman... don't frighten the poor girl...be gentle...be sincere. And above all...You must control your temper!
LUMIERE: Tonight is the night! You don't have time to be timid. You must be bold, daring. There will be music. Romantic candlelight, provided by myself, and when the time is right, you confess your love. You care for the girl, don't you? Well then you must tell her. Voila. You look so...so...No not stupid! That is not quite the word I was looking for. (Pushing his hair down) Perhaps a little more off the top. Your lady awaits.
BEAST: Belle? Are you happy here with me? What is it? You want to see your Father? - There is a way. This mirror will show you anything, anything you wish to see. Then...then you must go to him. I release you. You are no longer my prisoner. Here, take it with you, so you'll always have a way to look back, and remember me...I let her go. I had to...Because, I love her.
Song Lyrics: BE OUR GUEST
Be our guest, be our guest
Put our service to the test,
tie your napkin 'round your neck, cherie
and we provide the rest!
Soup du jour, hot hors
d'oeuvres
Why we only live to serve
Try the grey stuff, it's delicious
Don't believe me? Ask the dishes!
